Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentations with silicone gel mammary prosthesis are frequently performed in the winter months over the holidays. Patients frequently choose to recover from surgery when they have time off from work or from school.

I typically tell patients to rest for 4-6 weeks before resuming strenuous physical activity or contact sports. Having this time coincide with the holiday season is always helpful for recovery.

Breast Augmentation for Tuberous Breast Deformity

Breast augmentation is an excellent option for the correction of a tuberous breast deformity. Tuberous breast deformity is usually classified as having the following characteristics:

1.       A widened, enlarged, puffy areola

2.       Widely spaced breasts

3.       Minimal breast tissue

4.       A high inframammary fold

5.       A narrow breast base

Silicone gel mammary prosthesis are very helpful for correcting the volume associated with tuberous breasts, narrowing the width between the breasts, increasing the breast bases, and in lowering the inframammary fold.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is common in the summer months. Patients often ask me how soon they can go back to exercise following surgery as well as what they will look like shortly after surgery. For example patients often ask, "How much bruising and swelling will I have?"

Patients should expect "some" swelling post-operatively as well as "some" to "minimal" bruising. If patients can limit the amount of movement and exercise in the first two weeks post-operatively, they have a better chance of achieving an optimal result.

Once patients are outside of the two week window without complications such as hematomas, I find that they have a better chance for an optimal aesthetic result in the long-run.

Breast Augmentation

Patients often ask what they will look like early post-operatively following breast augmentation. I typically tell patients that breast augmentation results take approximately 6 to 12 months to truly be appreciated. However, each patient has a different time period which the breast implants settle into position. Usually patients who have a longer distance or more "stretchy" skin between the areola and the inframammary fold or "breast crease" tend to settle more quickly. The patient in the above photograph is two weeks post breast augmentation. The implants have already begun to take on a natural shape and position.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is common procedures in the summer months. It is very common for young women in Southern California to come into the office for consultations in June, July, and August for breast augmentation.

Recovery times following breast augmentation are becoming shorter. Many women choose to book their surgery in the summer months so that they can relax and recover by the pool or beach.

The breast augmentation consultation process usually occurs in two meetings. The first meeting is educational for the patient as well as objective measures of chest wall and breast sizing.

In the second meeting, patients bring to the office photographs of breast sizes and shapes that they like so that we can then match the objective sizing we determined in the first meeting, to the ultimate breast augmentation volume that they would like to achieve.

Breast augmentation consultations are increasing in frequency as we reach the summer months. Many patients wish to undergo breast augmentaiton in the early spring so that they can be ready for swimwear in the summer. Patients always ask how soon they can go back to the water after breast augmentation. Patients are allowed to shower two days after breast augmentation, but swimming, bathtubs, and jacuzzis, are not allowed until 4-6 weeks following surgery.
